I am so glad that you are here, truly.
I have been playing around with this idea for 7 years. In fact, I started the idea several times after being encouraged by strangers and loved ones. I just never committed to it or followed through. (Typical and relatable, eh?)
Kym’s World is a place where I share my world, my learning and my freedom with you.
This space is going to be an unfiltered exploration of all that my love entails (in the non-creepiest of ways, I promise lol). You will likely find snapshots of me living and laughing out loud, sharing videos, writing, audio, ideas I am working on, music, amateur art/animations, snippets of research and maybe even some reading of key texts that I believe should be accessible to more of our community in audio form.
Whether tackling a pressing social issue or championing sub vs dub anime, my lens is intersectional - it un-flattens topics and broadens perspectives. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and suggest topics, and founding members will have the opportunity to have a joint conversation. Plus, you will have early access to events and releases. And, honestly, I hope we actually get to know each other better along the way.
In the video that kicked this substack off, I said that I believe in having intracommunal conversations - conversations within community. Not every conversation is for everybody! Some of our conversations need to be had behind closed doors, inside the community. I have created this space for that very reason. The intention is to expand, to reason - not to divide. We have enough of that already…
My life, my world and my research revolves around us.
Not as a subject matter (I’m not a coloniser or an agent lol), but rather ‘us’ as a family, whom I love. We are my world. I love us so much, in all our iterations. I really want us to heal, so we can be in better relationship with ourselves, each other, the land… So we can experience freedom… liberation. I dunno about you, but I have yet to be able to envision what liberation would truly look like… but it sounds dreamy!
